Bishop John Shelby Spong, whose books have sold more than
a million copies, is a committed Christian who has spent a lifetime studying the Bible and whose life has been deeply shaped
by it. He makes contemporary theology accessible to the layperson and is considered by many the champion of an inclusive faith.
On June 12, 2010, Bishop Spong will be sharing his insights from his life long journey in the Christian tradition.
He will have two presentations:
1) Discovering
God Beyond Theism
Does atheism mean there is no God? Or does it mean that the theistic definition of God has died? If the latter, how
then can we speak of God beyond theism?
2) Jesus
– Not Savior but Source of Empowerment
If Evolution is right then Original Sin is out. Can we retell the Jesus story in a new way – not as a savior of the
fallen, but as the call to a new humanity?
There will be sufficient time for questions and answers with Bishop
Spong on the material he presents. There will also be small group process with the New Awakenings Community after each of
the presentations..
